    Brian Mulligan graduated as a Civil Engineer in 1978 from University College Dublin and later with a Masters in Engineering Design (Manufacturing). His early employment was mostly in mathematical modelling and simulation and the application of information technology within engineering. He is currently on secondment as a Programme Manager responsible for online learning development in the Centre for Online Learning at the Institute of Technology Sligo where he has lectured since 1984.   He has been instrumental in making the institute into Ireland’s leading provider of accredited online education in engineering, construction and science, and significantly involved in the growth of e-learning in Ireland as a founding member of the Irish Learning Technology Association.  His main areas of expertise are now in web-casting, webinar management, synchronous online training, instructor-led online training, open (free) online education and the rapid development of online training.

    “Online Learning and the future of CPD in Engineering”

    Synopsis-

    The Internet holds the potential to revolutionise both formal and informal education and training in the workforce.  In this presentation, Brian will summarise the key current and emerging tools driving change in the provision of Continuing Professional Development over the Internet, describing the opportunities that are currently available for staff development, as well as those that are likely to emerge in the near future in free online learning right through to full accredited higher education courses.
